Other State and National Resources for standards-based instruction in Texas adult education and literacy

Texas College and Career Readiness Standards - Adopted by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board in 2011, these standards in English/language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies specify what students must know and be able to do to succeed in entry-level courses at postsecondary educational institutions in Texas.

College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education - Developed for the U.S. Department of Education in 2013, this report offers a set of college and career readiness standards in English language arts/literacy and mathematics, which reflect the content most relevant to preparing adult students for success in colleges, technical training programs, work and citizenship.

English Language Proficiency Standards for Adult Education - Developed for the U.S. Department of Education in 2016, these standards are organized into content-specific practices that an adult ESL learner needs to participate in academic coursework or employment.

Guide to the Adult Citizenship Education Content Standards and Foundation Skills -“The Office of Citizenship, within U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), developed this guide to assist adult education program administrators and teachers in developing a citizenship curriculum and thematic lessons, choosing textbooks and supplemental materials, and creating effective learning activities.”  View the Guide.

Developmental Education Course Outcomes- This report from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) provides the courses and interventions approved for development education in community colleges along with their expected outcomes.  The report also recommends utilizing the Texas College and Career Readiness Standards. International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) Standards - “The ISTE Standards are a framework for students, educators, administrators, coaches and computer science educators to rethink education and create innovative learning environments. The standards are helping educators and education leaders worldwide re-engineer schools and classrooms for digital age learning, no matter where they are on the journey to effective edtech integration.”  The Texas AEL Tech Integration Coaches Pathway is guided by the ISTE standards:
