This event will provide hands-on activities to help you re-tool an existing IET or plan
and implement a new IET program that meets the needs of your community.
Bring questions that need answers.

Developing an IET: Tools and Tips for Success

Participants will experience the process of developing an Integrated Education and Training (IET) in the context of WIOA. Activities will focus on:

  • Planning the IET from start to finish (from creativity to compliance)
  • Creating contextualizing AEL lessons with co-learning objectives
  • Building and strengthening partnerships
  • Addressing unique and local system needs through engaging with proven experts

Who should attend?
At a minimum, the AEL Director, an AEL IET instructor, career navigator and a workforce training instructor, who will be working together on an existing or potential IET.

What will I learn from attending?

  • Learn how to plan an IET that prepares those in your community with the skills they need to find employment
  • Learn strategies for developing strong partnerships and strengthening existing collaborations
  • Learn to develop an IET program that complies with WIOA and state guidance

Learn problem solving strategies and promising practices from your peers.

About the Presenter:Carol Clymer (Ed.D. Curriculum and Instruction) is Co-Director of Institute for the Study of Adult Literacy and Goodling Institute for Research in Family Literacy at Penn State. She has over 40 years of experience managing and evaluating programs to improve the education and employment prospects of dislocated, low-income, and/or low-skilled individuals. She has extensive experience developing curriculum and workforce development guides. Carol also directed the California Career Advancement Academies evaluation and was a member of the Urban and Aspen Institutes’ evaluation team for the Accelerating Opportunities Initiative. She is a co-author of the Developing Basic Skills Curriculum for an IET: A Guide for the Pathways to Employment Program.
